Medical Kit

This page will eventually be updated with our Medical supplies list along with the other personal stuff we had to do before leaving.

  • We both visited our Dentists a couple of weeks prior to departure to make sure that everything was OK.
  • Roughly around the beginning of April Mark and I made an appointment with the nurse at our local Doctors to discuss what immunisations we would need and when we had to start.  Lucky for us that we did visit so early as I (Amy) started my course of immunisations straight away.
  • One thing that took a surprisingly long time was informing people/companies of our departure from the UK.  I didn't realise how many different bank/credit cards companies, clubs we belong to and also how long it takes to change your addresses on everything.
As our contact address is my mums we started changing our addresses in April to save a mad dash just before we left.
  • Both Mark and I wear glasses/contact lenses so it was important for us to make sure that we had had a recent eye examination and that we had a supply of contact lenses to take with us.  We shopped around for the best deal on daily contact lenses and found that Tesco's Opticians gave the best deal and the best service.
  • Back in January 2005, we attended a 4x4 driving day down at Sailsbury Plain in England.  This was organised through Frogs Island 4x4 and was really helpful in preparing us for different types of terrain.  We would really recommend this if you haven't driven off road much.
  • Back in February 2005 we contacted Magic Carpet, who arranged our Iranian Visa's for us.  They advised that once the visa has been obtained you have 3 months to enter Iran and then the visa validity begins, because of this we had to wait until the end of May to apply in the hope that we would have the visa early in June. ( we were planning to get to Iran for the 1st September)  We also got our Pakistan and Indian Visas in June.  We went up to the embassies and got both visa in 1 day.  You fill out the paperwork prior to arrival and then just pay the cost and wait for about an hour.  Unfortunately for us we later discovered that the Indian Visa would expire before we wanted it to, so we applied and got a new 6 month double entry visa in Islamabad in Pakistan.
